Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Bengal Files’ was released on September 5th, amidst significant controversy. The movie depicts the events of the 1946 Calcutta killings. Due to political reasons, the film did not release in West Bengal, but was screened in other parts of India. A show at a Mumbai theater was unexpectedly canceled, causing a social media user to express their frustration. The film’s release was highly anticipated, with people eager to see it. A recent social media post revealed a user’s anger at the cancellation of a Mumbai show. The user also shared a video showing people at the ticket counter. Narayan Parvathy Parasuram posted a video on X from the ticket counter at Huma Mall in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai. He expressed his frustration at the cancellation, pointing out the number of people waiting to watch ‘The Bengal Files’ and those still in line. Shows were canceled for those who had already purchased tickets. The user emphasized that this was not Kolkata, but the land of Shivaji Maharaj. Another user also shared their experience, mentioning that the 9 AM show was canceled, and there was a large crowd of at least 50 people. Prior to the film’s release, actress Pallavi Joshi sent an open letter to President Droupadi Murmu, asking for intervention and protection of her constitutional rights.
