President Droupadi Murmu made a compelling case for India and Spain to consolidate their strengths against terrorism during Wednesday’s high-level talks with Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares at the President’s residence. ‘Our shared vision demands unified action,’ she stated firmly.

The conversation delved into the longstanding partnership between the two countries, built on trade, cultural affinities, and mutual respect for democracy and diversity. With diplomatic relations hitting the 70-year milestone, 2024 is themed around culture, tourism, and artificial intelligence initiatives.

Economic momentum is undeniable, as bilateral trade and investments grow in vital areas such as engineering goods, railway projects, renewable energy solutions, smart cities, and defense-aerospace technologies. President Murmu highlighted how Spain’s capabilities directly support India’s growth trajectory.

Anticipating the India-EU Free Trade Agreement’s signing, she predicted exponential trade growth. Advocating for multilateralism, she called for closer collaboration at the UN and G20 to champion global peace and prosperity.

Reaffirming a common anti-terrorism strategy, President Murmu said, ‘We must merge our resources to confront every variant of this scourge.’ Amid strengthening India-EU bonds, the nation prepares to host European leaders as chief guests for Republic Day, symbolizing deepening strategic ties.

These interactions pave the way for robust Indo-Spanish collaboration, addressing contemporary challenges head-on.
