Late-night chaos unfolded on the highway near Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, as a tire burst on a Nellore-Hyderabad bus propelled it into a deadly collision with a lorry, sparking a fire that killed three and injured four. All 36 passengers were rescued dramatically from the burning wreckage.
SP Sunil Shyoran detailed how the incident struck around 1 a.m. The private bus’s right front tire gave way, stripping the driver of control. It crossed the divider and rammed the oncoming lorry, with fire erupting seconds later, consuming both rigs entirely.
A traffic jam ensued, but swift action by arriving cops and villagers turned the tide. Using brute force, they extracted every passenger safely, though four suffered fractures and needed hospital admission in Nandyal.
The bus driver, lorry driver, and helper lost their lives in the blaze. Post-mortem examinations are underway after police secured the remains. Specialist teams from Kurnool assessed the scene, questioning if impact sparks or battery faults fueled the flames.
As investigations continue, this accident serves as a stark reminder of highway perils. Poor maintenance, especially tires under heavy loads, demands urgent attention from transport authorities. The road is now open, but grief lingers for the bereaved families.
