The NARI 2025 report provides a comprehensive assessment of women’s safety in urban India. Based on a survey of 12,770 women across 31 states, the report indicates that nearly 40% feel unsafe or not very safe in urban areas. The report also found that approximately 7% of women aged 18-24 were subject to harassment in 2024. Delhi and Kolkata were identified as the least safe cities, while Mumbai and other locations were considered safer. Forms of harassment mentioned in the report included staring, catcalling, and physical contact. The study linked these concerns to factors like inadequate infrastructure, poor lighting, and inefficient public transportation. Moreover, it was revealed that only a small fraction of the women surveyed reported incidents, and a significant number were unsure about the implementation of POSH policies in their workplaces.
