    Digital fraud is a major and growing concern in India, affecting many citizens. The Digital Arrest Scam is a particularly prevalent form of cybercrime. According to information from a Money9 webinar, retired people are frequently targeted by these scams. Fraudsters frequently exploit fear and incentives to deceive individuals. This article provides an overview of these fraudulent methods and offers advice on how to safeguard yourself from them.

    Fraudsters are interested in acquiring your private and banking information. Never share personal information with anyone you don’t know, whether via phone, text, or a link.

    **What is a Digital Arrest Scam?**
    This sort of cyber fraud entails con artists posing as officials from the CBI, police, ED, or other government agencies and threatening and intimidating people. They convince their targets that failing to comply will result in legal consequences. They then demand money by virtually arresting individuals online.

    * Initial contact
    * Instilling fear and worry
    * Controlling your activities via video call
    * Requesting funds
    * Vanishing after a money transfer

    **How to Prevent Being Scammed:**
    * There is no such thing as a ‘digital arrest’ under Indian law; a police officer will appear at your home with a warrant if they wish to arrest you.
    * Don’t be alarmed.
    * Do not provide any information.
    * Immediately hang up the phone.
    * Report to 1930.

    **How Fraudsters Operate:**
    * **Phishing:** Fraudsters send bogus emails and messages that include links; clicking them directs you to a fake website or installs malware on your device.
    * **Lottery and Job Scams:** Be wary if an unknown person provides you with a job or a lottery win; you may be being scammed. They request money for registration fees or taxes and disappear after receiving the money.
    * **Fake Customer Care Numbers:** Fraudsters know people utilize Google to locate customer care numbers; consequently, they utilize technology to get fake customer care numbers to the top of Google search results.

    **Fraud Prevention Tips:**
    * Refrain from clicking on unknown links.
    * Never share your OTP, CVV, or ATM PIN with strangers.
    * Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication on your mobile and laptop.
    * Utilize antivirus software on your phone and other devices.

    **Cyber Fraud Helpline Number:**
    If you have been a victim of fraud, report it to the cybercrime.gov.in portal immediately. Your vigilance is the best approach to avoid digital fraud.
