At Raigarh District Jail, 47 inmates, including 40 men and 7 women, will observe fasts during the Sharadiya Navratri. The jail administration has arranged special provisions to support their religious observance. The Jail Superintendent, G.S. Shauri, provided the details, confirming that the jail, which houses 800 inmates, will see 47 participating in fasts. The jail management acknowledges and respects the religious faith of the inmates. Arrangements include designated barracks for peaceful worship and devotional practices. Of the fasting inmates, 30 will observe the fast throughout the nine days of Navratri, while 17 will fast on selected days. Dietary requirements are catered to, with a focus on providing fruits instead of regular meals. Furthermore, the jail provides essential worship materials, facilitates the installation of a kalash, and offers musical instruments for devotional singing. The jail premises are maintained in a clean and tranquil state to provide a conducive atmosphere for the inmates during Navratri. This initiative by the jail administration reflects respect for the inmates’ religious sentiments, and is also a part of their rehabilitation efforts. The Superintendent emphasizes the role of religious practices in cultivating positivity and self-reflection among the inmates.
