A potentially devastating terror plot, orchestrated by a sophisticated “white-collar” module, has been foiled in India, averting what could have been a global-scale catastrophe. The meticulously planned operation involved 32 vehicles rigged as car bombs, carrying an alarming total of 3,200 kilograms of explosives. The sheer magnitude of this thwarted attack is highlighted by expert analysis: such a quantity of ammonium nitrate could cause an explosion equivalent to 2.5 tons of TNT, with devastating effects extending hundreds of meters. The potential for mass casualties and destruction far surpasses historical terror incidents like the Oklahoma City bombing or the Mumbai serial blasts. Security agencies have made significant strides in neutralizing the immediate threat, recovering a large portion of the explosives and identifying a few of the intended vehicles. However, critical components of the plot remain at large. An estimated 300 kilograms of explosives are still unaccounted for, and 29 of the 32 planned car bombs have not been traced. This ongoing situation demands sustained vigilance and rigorous investigation to ensure all threats are eliminated and to prevent any resurgence of such destructive intentions. India’s swift response averted a national disaster of unparalleled proportions.
