A political dispute has been triggered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks about Jawaharlal Nehru at a rally in Assam. PM Modi asserted that the impact of Nehru’s actions during the 1962 Sino-Indian conflict is still felt by the people of Assam. This statement drew a strong response from Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera. Khera posted on X, featuring segments from Nehru’s address to the nation on November 19, 1962, where Nehru expressed solidarity with Assam and the Northeast. Khera suggested that the Prime Minister should familiarize himself with the historical context before making such statements, essentially accusing PM Modi of misrepresenting facts.

During the event in Assam’s Darrang district, where projects valued at Rs 6300 crore were launched, PM Modi praised the Assam BJP government’s actions. He stated that the current government is working on development initiatives and rectifying the shortcomings of the Congress government. He also mentioned the removal of illegal claims and highlighted the encroachment on agricultural land and places of worship during the previous government’s tenure, which the BJP government is now addressing.

Moreover, PM Modi claimed that the BJP government has been actively tackling infiltration and has recovered considerable land from infiltrators. He stressed the government’s commitment to protecting the country from infiltration, stating that the government is effectively delivering on this front. He also called out those who support infiltrators, warning that they would face consequences and that the nation would not forgive them.
