India and Jordan are reaffirming their robust bilateral relationship with a renewed focus on cooperation across key sectors. During an official visit, Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra engaged in productive discussions with Jordanian Foreign Ministry officials, including Secretary General Daifallah Ali Al-Fayez and Ambassador Mohammed Abu Wendi. This high-level exchange, occurring during the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, covered a wide array of topics including political dialogue, economic ties, trade, defense cooperation, and cultural exchanges. Both nations expressed pleasure in their enduring friendly relations and committed to further strengthening their partnership. Regional and global issues of mutual interest, such as the situation in West Asia, were also deliberated, with a strong emphasis placed on diplomatic solutions and peaceful conflict resolution. Future Foreign Office Consultations are scheduled to take place in New Delhi. Secretary Malhotra also connected with the Indian diaspora and key figures in Jordan’s business, academic, and cultural spheres, recognizing their contributions to bilateral linkages. A potential Twinship Agreement between Agra and Petra was also discussed, building on earlier consultations that highlighted consistent progress in the India-Jordan partnership. A series of events are planned to commemorate the 75 years of diplomatic relations. Economic ties are flourishing, with bilateral trade reaching an impressive USD 2.8 billion in 2023-24, cementing India’s position as Jordan’s fourth-largest trading partner. Both countries are dedicated to enhancing economic diversification and mutual investment, including support for educational projects like the India-Jordan Centre of Excellence in IT.
