A significant agreement has been reached between Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the Department of Post (DoP), paving the way for consumers to buy BSNL SIM cards and recharge their phones through post offices.
Over 1.65 lakh post offices across the nation will serve as sales points, offering easy access to BSNL services particularly in rural and remote regions.
Under this arrangement, BSNL will provide SIM cards and training to post office staff. The Department of Post will ensure secure and standardized new connections and recharge services.
The government views this partnership as a means to bring BSNL services to people in rural and underserved areas, supporting Digital India, financial inclusion, and socio-economic advancement.
The pilot project in Assam was successful, prompting a nationwide implementation. The MoU was signed in Delhi.
The partnership combines the reliability of India Post with BSNL’s telecom expertise, providing affordable and accessible connectivity for everyone. This collaboration will expand BSNL’s service reach across the country.
The agreement will be in effect for one year, starting September 17, with the potential for extension. Both departments will conduct monthly reviews, ensuring strict adherence to cybersecurity and data privacy regulations.
