Sergio Gor, the incoming US Ambassador to India, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, relaying President Donald Trump’s personal regard for the Indian leader, whom he considers a “great friend.” The meeting underscored the strength and strategic depth of the India-US relationship. Prime Minister Modi welcomed Gor, anticipating that his tenure will significantly fortify the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

The discussions between Ambassador-designate Gor and PM Modi encompassed critical aspects of the bilateral agenda, focusing on defense sector collaboration, trade agreements, and technology-sharing initiatives. The importance of critical minerals in geopolitical strategy was also a key topic of conversation. Gor’s initial engagements in New Delhi have been extensive, including meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, signaling a proactive approach to diplomacy.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also held a cordial meeting with Gor, discussing the broad contours of the Indo-US relationship and its global standing. This diplomatic activity follows a period of strain in trade relations due to US tariff measures. Nevertheless, recent high-level communications between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi have created a more optimistic environment for the resumption of trade deal negotiations, aiming to resolve outstanding issues and boost economic ties.
