Bombs are being made using technology by MIL in collaboration with Russian company.

Highlights

A new series of bombs is being made in the Ordnance Factory. The bombs have the capability to penetrate light armed vehicles and are tested in different stages in cold and hot regions.

Naiduniya Representative, Jabalpur. Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK) located in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh is engaged in preparing a new series of bombs. The bombs have the ability to penetrate armoured vehicles

A modern plant has been developed in the factory under the supervision of an expert team, in which bombs are being prepared. These versions are anti-aircraft bombs. They also have the capability to penetrate light armed vehicles. Earlier, all three versions of 30 mm were manufactured by a Russian company. Later, its production became possible in OFK, a unit of Munitions India Limited (MIL).

Russian technology

For these bombs, MIL had signed an agreement with the Russian company for transfer of technology. OFK’s expert team studied the technology of the 30 mm bomb in detail. Along with this, by making some more technical changes in it and increasing its lethality, it succeeded in making a bomb that hits the target accurately, giving impetus to the indigenisation campaign.

Bomb Capacity30 mm HEI

On hitting the high exclusive Indu, it turns into a fireball and burns the enemy’s tank or vehicle completely. It is an anti-aircraft. Its range in the sky is two thousand meters and on ground targets, it destroys the target by reaching a range of four thousand meters.

30 mm HET – It has all the features of HEI. Another specialty of this bomb is that it can be seen at whatever distance it hits the target. Since HET is traced, it has been placed in the category of tracer.

30 mm APT- This is considered a very useful bomb for the Army. It has the ability to penetrate the body of an armored vehicle, so APT has been included in the category of anti-tank bomb.

Production based on trial findings

Production of these bombs was made possible by keeping in mind the findings of work trials on various versions of the bomb. Due to special attention to quality in the production of the bombs, they have passed all the tests in recent years. DRDO-designed OFK tests its bombs at the local Long Proof Range (LPR) as well as at other testing ranges in the country including the coastal town of Balasore in Odisha.

Trial is done in different phases

The trial is conducted in different stages in cold and hot regions keeping in mind the high and low temperatures. Only after this the lot gets the green signal. The army uses this bomb for ground to ground, ground to air, air to ground and ship attacks. It has an excellent performance in all the experiments.
