Challan of 500 rupees for a lawyer driving a car without wearing a mask, sought compensation of 10 lakh rupees from the government

The lawyer has stated in his petition that the offense stated in the challan is that he has not worn a mask in a public place. However, he claims that his “private vehicle is not a public place when traveling alone.”

A Delhi lawyer has approached the Delhi High Court and demanded a refund of the Rs 500 fine imposed on him for not wearing a mask while driving a car alone. Along with this, he has demanded Rs 10 lakh as compensation from the government officials for “mental torture in public”.

In his petition, lawyer Saurabh Sharma says that he was issued a challan by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of East Delhi on September 9 while he was driving alone.

According to the report, in his petition, he stated, “On 09.09.2020, at around 11 am, while going to his office, the petitioner’s car was stopped near the Geeta Colony by Delhi Police officials. A police constable Arora took her photo. While the petitioner was still sitting in his car and directed him to get out of the car. ”
