Highlights

Municipal Corporation’s Chief Health Officer and Birth-Death Registration Department Registrar Dr. Upadhyay said in response to questions that check the name of the child, parents etc. in the birth certificate. If there is a mistake, apply for correction immediately. Otherwise you may have to face trouble in the future.

Naiduniya representative, Indore. Registration of every birth and death that occurs within the municipal limits is mandatory. Keep in mind that if a person dies in Mumbai, even if the last rites are performed in Indore, the death certificate of that person will be made from Mumbai only. Similarly, the birth certificate will be made from the place where the birth took place. In big hospitals like MY Hospital and PC Sethi Hospital, birth certificates are made from the hospital itself.

Online records are sent to the corporation from government and private hospitals where this facility is not available. A hard copy of the record also has to be sent to the corporation. After verification of these documents, the Municipal Corporation issues the birth certificate. Generally, this process takes two weeks.

While obtaining the birth or death certificate, you should check whether there is any mistake in it. Check the name of the child, parents etc. in the birth certificate. If there is a mistake, apply for correction immediately. Otherwise you may have to face trouble for this in the future.

The sooner you correct the mistake, the easier it will be to correct it. Make sure to check the wife’s name in the husband’s death certificate. If there is any discrepancy in it, the wife may have to face trouble in getting the claim and elsewhere.

This was said by Municipal Corporation’s Chief Health Officer and Birth-Death Registration Registrar Dr. Akhilesh Upadhyay. He was answering readers’ questions regarding birth-death certificates in Naiduniya’s weekly program Hello Naiduniya on Tuesday. Upadhyay said that a child does not have any name at the time of his birth.

If you want to add the name of your child in the birth certificate, then you will have to contact the zone office. Apart from this, you can also apply online on 311 application. Similarly, if you want to change the name of your child, then also you will have to apply to the corporation. There is no provision for changing the date of birth in the birth certificate.
