Farmers in Punjab launch ‘Stop Rail’ movement against agriculture bill, cancel 14 trains; State closed tomorrow

Railway has canceled railway operations in Punjab from 24 to 26 September, seeing the farmers’ movement. No passenger and parcel train will go to Punjab from 24 to 26 September. The trains will be terminated at Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur and Delhi stations.

The farmers of Punjab have intensified the movement against three important agricultural bills . From today (Thursday, 24 September), farmers have started a three-day rail roko movement in the state. In Amritsar, Ferozepur districts, farmers have sat on a dharna on the railway track. Trains to and from Delhi have been disrupted. The farmers have announced a statewide bandh on 25 September i.e. Friday. Due to this, the Ferozepur Railway Division has canceled 14 trains. After this, farmers have called for an indefinite shutdown from October 1.

The protests by growing farmers in Punjab amid the coronovirus epidemic suggest that even though the bills have been passed in Parliament, farmers are not in a mood to accept them. Farmers are worrying that once procurement starts outside the mandi, they may have to lose their minimum support price (MSP) system.

In the rural areas of Amritsar, the farmers and all their families, including children and old people, sat on the nearest railway track in the morning itself. 

One farmer told NDTV, “The government does not want to talk to us farmers. If we do not accept these laws then they cannot be enforced on the ground. We will keep fighting; this fight will take 2, 5 or 10 years. Can go on. Government should not think that the farmers and laborers of the country will accept these bills. “

The farmers have warned that if the government does not withdraw these bills passed by voice in the midst of unexpected uproar, then their agitation will intensify. The farmers of the major producing states of Punjab and Haryana in the country are opposing these bills.
