State Bureau, Naiduniya, Bhopal: The state government will make it mandatory to keep heritage liquor in bars by making changes in the excise policy. This will also have to be mentioned in the bar menu. There will be exemption to keep heritage liquor at home as well. The cabinet committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda has agreed to make this provision in the excise policy. Its notification will be issued soon.

Heritage wine made from Mahua flowers

Rules have been made in the year 2022 under the Excise Policy to recognize the heritage liquor made from Mahua flowers in the state. It can be produced only in the areas notified for tribes and only by the self-help groups of tribes. A shop can also be opened for sale in the premises of the manufacturing unit. Now it has been decided to expand.

Mandatory to be kept in hotel bar

The cabinet committee has agreed that it will be mandatory to keep heritage liquor in every hotel bar. Two crates of liquor can be kept. Not only this, its availability will also have to be mentioned in the bar menu. Four bottles of heritage liquor can be kept at home as well.

Excise department officials say that the liquor made from Mahua flowers by the tribal community has its own identity. Its availability is limited. Currently, production is limited but new units are coming forward. Currently, two self-help groups in Dindori and Alirajpur have been given exemption for production. The government does not charge any fee on heritage liquor.
