Lahaul Spiti will remain connected with the rest of the world for 12 months
During the Kargil war, Rohtang Pass made it helpful for the army to reach Kargil, then the Prime Minister of the country was Atal Bihari Vajpayee. But this pass is closed for six months in winter. The pass officially closes on November 15 and opens in April. In such a situation, people of Lahaul Spiti only have to be connected to the rest of the world by helicopter which depends on the weather. Tribal Development and Technical Education Minister Dr. Ramlal Markanda said that the tunnel will be open in all seasons, so people will be able to move freely and people will be able to reach Manali directly through the tunnel.

The tunnel is 9.2 kilometers
The total length of the Atal Tunnel Rohtang, which is included in the long road tunnels of the world, has been 9.2 kilometers. It was announced in 2001 by the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the foundation stone was laid by Sonia Gandhi in 2010. The tunnel has been built by BRO which is like horseshoe. Tunnel is very important from strategic observation, because through it 12 months army and logistics can reach China border besides Kargil border. BRO is going to build three more tunnels ahead of Rohtang.

Winter sports will get wings
Lahaul Spiti from Atal Tunnel will also come on the world map in terms of tourism. The reason for this is that after the winter snowfall here, winter sports will be possible, which used to be in Gulmarg and abroad. Apart from this, there are many places for tourism here in summer where people will be able to go. The unnecessary burden on Rohtang Pass will also be reduced. Tribal Development Minister Dr. Ramlal Markanda informed that the government will also develop tourism in Lahaul Spiti in the coming time and new tourist destinations will also be found.
