Nissan is set to expand its presence in India with the launch of four new products. The lineup includes a C-segment SUV, a subcompact MPV, a D-segment SUV, and an A-segment EV. The sub-4 meter MPV will be a rebadged Renault Triber, with a launch scheduled for early 2026. Following this, a new mid-size SUV is planned. The new compact SUV, based on the third-generation Renault Duster, is expected to be available in showrooms by mid-2026. This new SUV will enter the mid-size SUV segment, taking on competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, and Kia Seltos. The Nissan Terrano was previously withdrawn from the Indian market in 2020 due to poor sales performance and a weak dealer network. The new Duster-based SUV from Nissan is designed to take the place of the discontinued Terrano in the company’s product range. The company has not yet confirmed if they will be reviving the ‘Nissan Terrano’ name, or if the SUV will be launched under a new name. Preliminary indications, including official teasers and spy shots, suggest the upcoming mid-size SUV will boast a robust design with a commanding presence on the road. It will likely incorporate Nissan’s signature grille, inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, and a flat bonnet. It is also expected to feature bold shoulder creases, 18-inch alloy wheels with prominent wheel arches, extensive body cladding, and roof rails, contributing to its sporty aesthetics. The new Nissan SUV is expected to feature an interior similar to the new Duster and will include a range of premium features. According to reports, it may include even more features than the current models. Feature highlights could encompass a large touchscreen infotainment system, a full digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, rear AC vents, a range of airbags, ESC, ADAS, and other advanced technologies. The engine options are expected to be borrowed from the new Renault Duster. This suggests that the new Nissan SUV will offer a selection of petrol engine options, with a hybrid variant to follow. A CNG variant may also be part of the offering.
