Sri Lanka emerged victorious against Hong Kong in a thrilling Asia Cup 2025 match, with crucial contributions from Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga. Nissanka’s innings of 68 runs from 44 deliveries was a standout performance, providing stability to the Sri Lankan innings. Earlier in the match, Hong Kong put up a score of 149/4, thanks to Anshy Rath and captain Nizakat Khan. Following the match, skipper Charith Asalanka shared his reflections. He pinpointed areas where Sri Lanka needed to improve, including the initial overs of their bowling and the 16th over where they lost wickets, including his own dismissal. Asalanka acknowledged that such situations are common in the shorter format but emphasized the necessity to learn and improve consistently. He conveyed his confidence due to the pitch conditions and lauded Hong Kong’s batting performance, while conceding that Sri Lanka’s initial bowling performance was lacking. He stated the importance of playing better when playing teams like Hong Kong as professionals.
