Bihar’s political discourse is intensifying as RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has labeled Chief Minister Nitish Kumar a ‘putla’ (puppet) and ‘mukhota’ (mask), forecasting his exclusion from power by the BJP. Nitish Kumar has responded assertively, dismissing the opposition’s manifesto as deceitful and detailing his administration’s accomplishments.

The Mahagathbandhan’s manifesto, released by Tejashwi Yadav, outlines ambitious promises, including government jobs for one person in each family across Bihar. The plan specifies a rapid job creation process and timely issuance of appointment letters. The manifesto also pledges permanent government jobs and increased salaries for ‘Jeevika Didis,’ the regularization of contractual employees, and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme. Further provisions include monthly financial aid for women, free electricity units, and expanded reservation benefits.

The manifesto’s release highlighted Tejashwi Yadav’s prominence within the Mahagathbandhan. While Yadav has presented the election as a direct confrontation with Nitish Kumar, his ‘puppet’ narrative has been met with a swift counter-response from Kumar, challenging the perception of his autonomy. Despite Yadav’s suggestions of Kumar’s ill health, the Chief Minister remains actively engaged in campaigning, conducting numerous rallies. The effectiveness of Tejashwi Yadav’s strategy in influencing voter sentiment is a key factor in the upcoming elections.
