The Indian government is tightening controls on how National Sports Federations (NSFs) project their credentials. A fresh advisory from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports prohibits the unsanctioned display of national emblems, ministerial logos, and SAI symbols across all federation communications.

Observed violations include their appearance on official stationery, online sites, and cards, wrongly implying direct governmental oversight—a breach of the National Sports Development Code, 2011.

Recognition and support packages do not confer logo usage privileges. Federations can note their approved status in text form only, avoiding any graphical integration.

Permissible scenarios are narrow: event-linked materials such as posters, hoardings, or mementos, exclusively where funding or approval is documented.

NSFs must act swiftly to eliminate these from documents and digital spaces, extending oversight to state and UT affiliates. Top officials bear the onus of enforcement.

Defiance invites penalties under regulatory frameworks, potentially ending recognition or halting funds. This directive reinforces boundaries, promoting transparency in India’s sports ecosystem.
