There is a popular saying in Hindi, ‘Khatiya Khari Karna’ which means to disturb the sleep of the one who is living comfortably. Due to a similar fear, in a village near Bengaluru, which has a population of about 3000, some traditions are being followed for centuries as per religious tradition. Rural traditions and beliefs are being passed on from generation to generation. That’s why no one keeps chickens in this village. This village is also famous for another specialty, which many people may be unaware of.

No one sleeps in a cot or cot

The holy abode of Mailarilingaiya Mallaya village, located about 520 km from Bengaluru and about 20 km from Yadgir district headquarters, has a population of about 3000. Cotton, pigeon pea, chilli and sugarcane are mainly cultivated in this village. There is another specialty of this dry land village, which you will be surprised to know about. Because there is not a single hen or cock in this village, that is, no one is involved in poultry farming business. Similarly, no person living here sleeps in a cot or cot.

Reason for not sleeping on the cot

Mailarilingayya Mallayya is the deity here, who is said to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is said about them that they are such gods who do not tolerate any kind of disturbance, especially during sleep. They especially avoid waking up due to the small sounds of the rooster. In such a situation, there is a widespread belief here that if God’s sleep is disturbed then the people of the village will have to face God’s wrath i.e. his curse. There is a ban on the cot because it is also believed that Mallayya and his wife, Goddess Turanga Devi, sit on the cot. He showers blessings on the devotees. So to respect her, everyone even the disabled and mothers with newborn babies prefer to sleep on the floor to avoid the wrath of the goddess.
