On Wednesday, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar celebrated the spirit of India’s ‘unity in diversity’ at a special event honoring the statehood days of Nagaland and Assam. Held at Lok Bhavan, the joint ceremony acknowledged Nagaland’s formation on December 1st and Assam’s on December 2nd, with the celebration postponed due to the Governor’s absence from the state on the actual dates. Governor Gangwar praised the contributions of individuals from Nagaland and Assam living in Jharkhand, highlighting their hard work and talent as significant drivers of the state’s development. He described the northeastern states as embodying the profound cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty of India. The Governor stressed the integral role of Northeast India in areas such as national security, environmental conservation, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering national unity. He pointed out the region’s rich biodiversity, traditional knowledge systems, diverse tribal cultures, vibrant music, skilled handicrafts, and significant tourism potential as national assets. The Governor shared insights into Assam’s cultural identity, noting its renown for folk arts, literature, music, and historical significance, exemplified by the Kamakhya Temple, the Brahmaputra River, the energetic Bihu dance, and its famed tea gardens. Nagaland was recognized as the ‘land of festivals,’ with its traditional music, indigenous attire, intricate handicrafts, and the prominent Hornbill Festival serving as powerful symbols of its cultural pride. Governor Gangwar commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ program for its role in enhancing cultural exchange and understanding between different Indian states. He also expressed his gratitude for the initiative to rename Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavans. He concluded by wishing prosperity and greater global recognition for the unique cultures of Nagaland and Assam, urging continued dedication to unity, harmony, and nation-building. Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Nitin Madan Kulkarni also extended his wishes, specifically mentioning the cultural impact of Assamese artists Bhupen Hazarika and Zubin Garg, and the celebrated Hornbill Festival.
