In a heartbreaking development, Odia cinema’s musical genius Abhijeet Majumdar breathed his last on Sunday at 54, succumbing to chronic ailments after months of treatment. His passing marks the end of an influential chapter in regional music, prompting widespread tributes from peers and fans alike.

Majumdar’s health had been fragile for an extended period, with care at AIIMS Bhubaneswar addressing hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease. A critical turn late Saturday led to intensive care, but he could not be revived despite exhaustive interventions.

Social media lit up with condolences from the Odia film community. Singers and directors reminisced about collaborations, while BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty shared on X: ‘Losing Abhijeet Majumdar is a profound tragedy for music lovers everywhere. His compositions will forever resonate.’

Hailing from a birthdate of September 11, 1971, Majumdar transformed Odia music starting the early 2000s. Amid cinema’s quest for novelty, his emotive, relatable scores shone brightly. Films such as ‘Love Story’, ‘Sister Sridevi’, ‘Golmal Love’, ‘Sundargarh Ra Salman Khan’, and ‘Shriman Surdas’ feature his timeless hits. Remarkably, he crafted over 700 songs for diverse platforms including films and albums.

Survived by wife Ranjeeta and a son, Majumdar’s story is one of passion and perseverance. Odisha’s art world vows to keep his spirit alive through enduring melodies.
