The increase in H-1B visa fees has prompted US companies to consider shifting operations offshore, with a particular focus on India. The new fee, set at $100,000, was implemented through an executive order signed by President Donald Trump. India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are attracting US businesses due to their expertise in skilled areas such as AI and drug discovery. The order impacts all new H-1B visa petitions, including those for the 2026 lottery. The US government agencies, including the Department of State, have issued guidance to enforce these new requirements. India, with its 1,700 GCCs, is transforming into a hub for innovation, including supporting fields like German car manufacturing.
