A Bangladeshi woman, Babli Begum, 28, has been arrested in Dehradun for allegedly living illegally in India using a fabricated Hindu identity and counterfeit documents. This arrest is part of the Dehradun Police’s ongoing ‘Operation Kalnemi’ campaign against individuals residing under false pretenses.

Begum, originally from the Gaibandha district of Bangladesh, reportedly crossed into India illegally in 2020. She made her way to Dehradun in 2021, married a local man in 2022, and then proceeded to create fake Indian identification. She was apprehended in the Patel Nagar area, where she was living as ‘Bhoomi Sharma’.

During the arrest, police discovered a cache of forged documents, including an Aadhaar card, Ayushman card, ration card, and voter ID card, all bearing the fake name Bhoomi Sharma. Her Bangladeshi passport was also found, confirming her true identity. She faces charges related to illegal immigration and the use of fraudulent documents.

Authorities are now investigating to trace and penalize any accomplices involved in the creation of these fake documents. This operation has been effective in identifying illegal immigrants, with 17 Bangladeshi nationals apprehended in Dehradun so far. Some have been deported, while others are facing legal prosecution.
