Palamu, India – Palamu Police has significantly disrupted illegal drug operations with a major crackdown, destroying approximately 7 acres of opium crops in the Manatu area. This action on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, is part of a broader, intensified effort by the district police to combat the menace of narcotic substances through both on-ground enforcement and technological surveillance.

Acting on specific intelligence, police personnel from the Manatu police station were dispatched to the forest areas of Jhanti village. Upon arrival, they discovered and subsequently eradicated a significant opium plantation spanning roughly 7 acres. The crops, which were in an early growth stage, were thoroughly destroyed by tractors, marking a substantial setback for illegal drug manufacturers and suppliers.

In a related initiative, the Pipratand police station employed drone technology to conduct aerial surveys of its jurisdiction. This modern surveillance method confirmed the absence of any illicit opium cultivation in the surveyed areas. Furthermore, the police noted a welcome change in local farming practices, with farmers in former cultivation hotspots now opting for legal crops such as pulses and oilseeds. To ensure these gains are sustained, the police have committed to regular patrols and vigilant monitoring of the region.

Palamu Police has affirmed its commitment to relentlessly pursue the elimination of narcotic production and trafficking. The police administration is urging the public to act as their eyes and ears, reporting any suspicious activities related to illegal cultivation or smuggling. The department assures complete anonymity for all individuals providing such crucial information.
