A court in Bangladesh has delivered a 21-year prison sentence to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina across three corruption cases. The charges relate to alleged misconduct in the allocation of plots in the Purbachol New Town Project managed by Rajuk. She has been sentenced to seven years for each of the three offenses. The verdict was reached without the presence of the accused, who has not yet been taken into custody. The court’s judgment noted that the plot was allocated to Sheikh Hasina irregularly, bypassing standard application processes and exceeding jurisdictional limits. The Anti-Corruption Commission had initiated six separate cases against Hasina and her family members earlier this year for allegedly misallocating government plots in the Purbachal area. The court is expected to pronounce sentences in the remaining three cases on December 1. Separately, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has been sentenced to five years imprisonment and a fine, and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul has also received a five-year jail term.
