Farmers in the Chainpur area of Palamu district are grappling with a devastating nilgai problem, resulting in the destruction of more than 50 acres of crops. The nilgai, appearing in large groups, are consuming and trampling vital crops like mustard, rye, chickpeas, and potatoes. Farmers are making desperate attempts to protect their fields, even standing guard throughout the night, but their efforts are consistently thwarted. A significant point of contention is the perceived inaction of the Forest Department. Farmers from numerous villages, including Kolhua, Karamdih, Mahuliya, Kektuva, and Parsia, have appealed to the Medininagar Divisional Forest Officer for prompt intervention. The ongoing damage has led to immense frustration and anger towards the department and the government. Consequently, several farmers have abandoned their land, facing severe economic hardship and a bleak future, heartbroken by the sight of their destroyed harvests.
