Financial security is under threat as a cunning scam centered around ration card e-KYC updates has led to the illegal withdrawal of Rs 3,69,500 from victims’ bank accounts. The perpetrators of this fraud employed a deceptive tactic, sending messages that appeared to be official notifications requiring urgent action for ration card e-KYC. These messages typically included a hyperlink. Upon clicking this link, individuals were either prompted to download a malicious application or were redirected to a fraudulent website. The ultimate goal was to steal critical banking information, such as account numbers and the One-Time Passwords (OTPs) used for transaction authorization. Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing the culprits, but public awareness and proactive security measures are paramount. Never click on suspicious links or share OTPs. Always rely on official channels for any information regarding government schemes or financial services.
