The province of Punjab in Pakistan is experiencing severe flooding following heavy rainfall, with hundreds of villages inundated and thousands of people displaced. Reports indicate that 17 people have died in the last day due to the floods. The overflowing rivers of Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab are the main cause, with officials stating that abnormal rises in water levels have been recorded due to heavy rain and the release of excess water from dams by India. Pakistan’s Federal Development Minister has accused India of using water as a weapon, while the Pakistani army has been deployed to help in rescue operations. The Kartarpur Corridor complex, including the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, is completely flooded.
