Kasim Khan, the son of imprisoned former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, is spearheading an international campaign for “proof of life,” citing his father’s alleged confinement in a “death cell” for six weeks. Detained since August 2023 on corruption charges Kasim insists are politically motivated, Imran Khan is reportedly denied all contact with the outside world. According to Kasim, his father has faced complete solitary confinement in Adiala Jail, with no family interactions, legal consultations, or phone calls, defying court orders that permit weekly visits.

Kasim Khan has issued a strong admonition to the Pakistani administration and those aligned with it, declaring they will face comprehensive legal, ethical, and international condemnation for any harm that may come to his father due to this “cruel isolation.” Echoing these fears, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, has labeled the isolation “illegal” and suggested that the government is concerned about a public backlash driven by Khan’s vast support. PTI leaders have confirmed no meetings have occurred for over three weeks, prompting concerns about Khan’s health, although jail officials state he is in good condition and not scheduled for relocation.

Further grievances voiced by the PTI include the alleged denial of reading materials, newspapers, and proper medical treatment. The party also claims that court orders allowing visits by up to six people, including Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, are being deliberately ignored. Following his 2023 arrest and the subsequent suppression of the PTI, Khan is serving a significant prison sentence. The PTI maintains that he is being held in conditions designed for “terrorists” and is subjected to psychological abuse, a stark contrast to expected jail conditions and privileges.
