Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Bangladesh culminated in the signing of a bilateral agreement and five MoUs. The signing ceremony took place in Dhaka at the Hotel Sonargaon, attended by Dar and Foreign Advisor Mohammad Touhid Hossain. Discussions centered around boosting trade relations and increasing investments between the two countries. Both nations aim to significantly increase the current annual trade, which is currently under $1 billion. The Bangladesh delegation was led by Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain, while the Pakistani delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The agreements include a visa waiver for official and diplomatic passport holders. Furthermore, the agreements encompass establishing a Joint Action Committee for trade, fostering cooperation between the foreign service academies, promoting collaboration between the national news agencies Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation (APPC), and creating an institutional partnership between the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI). A cultural exchange program was also signed to encourage stronger relationships between the people of both countries.
Foreign Minister Dar’s visit to Dhaka also included meetings with various political leaders and a scheduled meeting with Mohammad Yunus. The timing of the visit coincided with the final months of the interim government.
