The National Sports Governance Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday, amidst disruptions in the Parliament. The bill, introduced by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, aims to establish a comprehensive framework for sports governance in India. The passage of this bill signifies that all sports bodies in the country, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will now fall under the purview of this legislation. While the financial dealings of the BCCI are excluded from the purview of the RTI, other aspects, such as administration and selection transparency, will be covered. Under the provisions of the bill, all national federations must comply with the law after it is enacted. The act will encompass bodies from the National Olympic Association to district-level sports units, under the Ministry of Sports. The government aims to establish a robust sports structure to ensure timely elections, administrative accountability, and the welfare of athletes.
