The ongoing monsoon session of Parliament has been plagued by disturbances and protests stemming from opposition allegations of ‘vote theft’ and the SIR initiative. On the 17th day, opposition members continued their disruptions, throwing paper towards the Speaker’s chair and engaging in loud protests, resulting in the adjournment of both houses until August 18th. Sources suggest the government may end the session early. The session break will last from August 13th to August 15th. Both houses don’t sit on the weekend, August 16th and 17th. The monsoon session ends on August 21st. There is a possibility of early adjournment. The opposition has been aggressive on the issue of SIR, starting in Bihar. Numerous protests have taken place. Under SIR, over 6.5 million names were removed in Bihar. The opposition calls this a rushed decision. Intense protests have occurred in parliament. The opposition wants to discuss this issue. The opposition’s disruptions have stopped the house from working properly. On Tuesday, opposition members protested in the Lok Sabha. The opposition threw paper towards the Speaker’s chair. Discussions on bills have not been possible. Several bills were passed without discussion.
On Tuesday, the Rajya Sabha passed the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill- 2025 and the National Sports Governance Bill- 2025. The Lok Sabha passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025. Several bills were passed without discussion on Monday.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said this behavior damages the dignity of Parliament. He said they also protested when they were in the opposition, but they did it respectfully. They were sent there to work, not to throw paper. Opposition MPs marched against vote theft and SIR. Rahul Gandhi and 300 other opposition MPs marched to the Election Commission. They were later detained but were released. They chanted slogans like ‘Stop Vote Theft’ and ‘No to Dictatorship.’ Rahul Gandhi had earlier accused the Election Commission of vote theft, saying that some voters had been registered in multiple places. He cited the Karnataka’s Mahadevapura assembly seat as an example.
