Patna Police have made significant progress in the case of Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) chief Upendra Kushwaha, who received a threat allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The police have arrested the individual behind the threat. The arrest was made as a result of an operation conducted by Patna Police after a death threat was issued to the Rajya Sabha MP and RLM chief. The accused, identified as Rakesh Kumar from Siwan district, Bihar, was apprehended. The mobile phone used to send the threatening messages was also seized.

During the investigation, Rakesh Kumar confessed to being a member of Upendra Kushwaha’s party. He explained that his actions were motivated by his dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership. Rakesh contacted Kushwaha, falsely claiming to be affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and threatened to kill him within ten days, which created a stir in political circles. Upendra Kushwaha had also publicized the incident on X.

According to Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Kartikeya Sharma, an immediate investigation was launched upon receiving the threatening calls and messages. Technical surveillance was employed to trace the accused’s mobile number, leading to his arrest. Police are currently investigating whether the accused has any connections to organized crime. MP Upendra Kushwaha had brought the issue to the attention of the public via social media, calling upon security agencies to take appropriate action. He emphasized that while disagreement and criticism are fundamental in a democracy, criminal threats are unacceptable and deserve condemnation.
