The concept of marriage, intended as a lifelong bond, is seemingly treated lightly by some. A man from Patna, India, is facing legal consequences after marrying eight times. His eighth wife’s experience of physical abuse exposed the truth about his marital history. Had the abuse not happened, the previous marriages might have remained hidden.

The events unfolded in Anisabad, near Patna. A female journalist married Rakesh Kumar, a shopkeeper, in December 2024. Abuse started shortly after the wedding. She then raised the issue with the local panchayat, leading to the revelation of Rakesh’s seven prior marriages. The wife then filed a police complaint, alleging inaction.

The victim subsequently sought help from the Women’s Commission. After her husband failed to attend the hearing, a letter was written to the SP. The letter asked for an investigation to be conducted by the concerned police station. The victim explained that she married Rakesh Kumar from Mohania, Kaimur, on December 14, 2024, and moved to his home the next day.

    **Violence Begins Early**
The woman alleged that she was subjected to abuse from the second day of her stay. She also claimed an attempt to harm her took place on January 12, 2024. A village panchayat was convened, at which point the villagers disclosed that Rakesh had been married seven times previously.

    **Police Case in Mohania**
After discovering the truth about her husband’s prior marriages, the victim filed a case at the Mohania police station, but there was no follow-up. She then sought justice through the Bihar State Women’s Commission. She is a journalism graduate. The chairperson of the Bihar State Women’s Commission, Apsara, mentioned that Rakesh Kumar was summoned twice, but he failed to appear. Hearings were planned for July 14 and August 4; he was absent from both. The Women’s Commission has now communicated with the Kaimur SP, and the case is still underway.
