In Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a roadshow, receiving a warm welcome in his parliamentary constituency. The roadshow route covered from the Police Line to the Hotel Taj. Today, Prime Minister Modi will host the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, who is in India for a State Visit from September 9-16. Prior to the bilateral meeting, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Ramgoolam. Uttar Pradesh minister Dayashankar Mishra expressed his support for the upcoming discussions between the two leaders, expecting that the relationship between both countries will strengthen further. He highlighted the close ties, noting that Mauritius is often considered a second India.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam arrived in Kashi, the cultural capital of the country. The leaders are scheduled to hold discussions to strengthen ties. Ramgoolam received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour upon his arrival in Kashi on September 9. The meeting underscores the deep civilizational, spiritual, and people-to-people connections between India and Mauritius.

The bilateral discussions will focus on cooperation, emphasizing development partnerships and capacity building. The leaders will explore opportunities to work together in health, education, science & technology, energy, infrastructure, and new areas like renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy. This visit builds upon the elevated relationship, an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership,’ that resulted from PM Modi’s State Visit to Mauritius in March 2025. Mauritius is a crucial partner and maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region, vital to India’s MAHASAGAR Vision and the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The deepening cooperation matters for the well-being of both nations and the collective aims of the Global South. Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Dehradun to conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Uttarakhand and chair a high-level review meeting.
