The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scores another success in the national capital, where 251 MCD employees walked away with complimentary LPG stoves and cylinders. This distribution highlights the program’s evolution from rural focus to embracing urban essential workers.

At the heart of the event was a simple yet profound change: freeing families from the burdens of traditional cooking. MCD’s Commissioner oversaw the handover, praising the scheme’s role in promoting dignity and health. ‘Clean fuel is a right, not a privilege,’ he affirmed.

PMUY, a flagship Modi government initiative, has connected over 10 crore homes since 2016. Phase 2 intensified efforts, releasing 2 crore more connections amid the pandemic. Now, MCD staff—often overlooked—benefit directly, gaining tools for safer, efficient homes.

The impact is tangible. LPG eliminates hours spent foraging fuel, reduces drudgery, and curbs emissions contributing to climate change. Medical data backs this: a 70% drop in respiratory cases among beneficiaries.

Voices from the ground tell the real story. A veteran MCD worker shared, ‘My kitchen was a haze; now it’s clear and quick.’ This resonates with the scheme’s ethos of women-led development.

As PMUY marches on, plans include digital tracking for refills and further expansions. For Delhi’s MCD, it’s a catalyst for morale and productivity. In the broader canvas, it paints a picture of equitable energy access, propelling India towards its net-zero ambitions with grassroots momentum.
