Donald Trump was not suspended by Twitter for inciting violence

3 min read

The suspension of Donald Trump by social media platforms has taken the world by storm. Leaders all over the world, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, have condemned the suspension by Twitter and referred to as it ‘problematic’.
There is a rising consensus that the actions had been motivated by political bias moderately than any goal criterion. Amidst such a state of affairs, Twitter shares stumbled by as a lot as 10% on Monday. Under such circumstances, the exact justification provided by Twitter for suspending Donald Trump from the platform went largely unnoticed.
And because it seems, the justification cited by Twitter is totally weird and even Twitter doesn’t say that they’ve interpreted Trump’s tweets as incitement to violence. Twitter doesn’t say that in any respect. Instead, the social media platform claims that two of Trump’s tweets are being “interpreted” to imply an endorsement of violence. That is, Donald Trump has been banned from the platform as a result of how others, unnamed within the assertion, are decoding his tweets.
The Tweets that prompted Twitter to ban Donald Trump
There are two tweets which were cited as violation of its insurance policies. But, as may be seen, it nowhere encourages, incites, or endorses violence in any form or type. The first of the January 8 tweets learn, “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
The second, tweeted shortly after by Donald Trump, mentioned, “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.” It will not be clear the place exactly these tweets encourage violence. And it’s abundantly clear from Twitter’s assertion that the platform itself doesn’t interpret it as an incitement to violence.
The justification provided by Twitter for its resolution to droop Donald Trump
Twitter mentioned in its assertion, “Due to the ongoing tensions in the United States, and an uptick in the global conversation in regards to the people who violently stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, these two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President’s statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behavior from this account in recent weeks.”
“After assessing the language in these Tweets against our Glorification of Violence policy, we have determined that these Tweets are in violation of the Glorification of Violence Policy and the user @realDonaldTrump should be immediately permanently suspended from the service,” it added.
The evaluation by Twitter
The evaluation makes it abundantly clear that the US President was suspended from the platform due to how a bit of his supporters is decoding his tweets. Twitter doesn’t say which supporters had been decoding the tweets as an endorsement of violence or if the variety of folks decoding it in such a way was important sufficient to warrant a suspension.
It doesn’t even say what metric it used to achieve such a conclusion. It is abundantly clear that Twitter determined to droop Donald Trump as a result of they wished to and had been merely searching for an excuse to completely droop his account.
The causes cited by Twitter to ban Donald Trump are outrageous
The causes cited embrace the “use of the words “American Patriots” to explain a few of his supporters can be being interpreted as assist for these committing violent acts on the US Capitol” and the “mention of his supporters having a “GIANT VOICE long into the future” and that “They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!” is being interpreted as additional indication that President Trump doesn’t plan to facilitate an “orderly transition” and as a substitute that he plans to proceed to assist, empower, and protect those that consider he gained the election.”
In the top, it was determined that the one affordable plan of action was the suspension of his Twitter account.
