Indian cricket sensation Pratika Rawal is on the path to recovery, determined to make a powerful comeback after a fractured ankle forced her out of the World Cup final. The injury struck after a crucial century against New Zealand, a performance that underscored her significant impact on the team. Rawal’s journey to the top has been rapid; she chose cricket over basketball and quickly became a key opener for India. Her exceptional form is highlighted by her achievement of 1000 ODI runs in just 23 innings, a feat that places her in an exclusive club. Alongside Smriti Mandhana, Rawal forms one of the most potent opening partnerships in women’s cricket, consistently delivering runs and setting high standards. The World Cup was a roller-coaster for Rawal. After a period of adjustment, she produced a stellar 122 to guide India into the knockout stages. The subsequent ankle fracture, sustained during a slip on a damp outfield, was a major blow. Rawal recounted the incident, noting her instinct to get up and walk, despite the intense pain. Her immediate thought was about her return to batting. Though sidelined, Rawal remained a supportive presence for her team, participating in the joyous World Cup victory celebrations. She views the injury as a temporary setback and is focused on her rehabilitation, aiming to return ‘much stronger.’
