Accusing the BJP of electoral foul play, Mehbooba Mufti has spotlighted the alleged misuse of central agencies as evidence of the party’s mounting frustration. The PDP supremo made these pointed remarks during a media interaction in Srinagar, where she unpacked the timing and targets of recent enforcement drives.

Mufti painted a picture of a government cornered, resorting to ED, CBI, and Income Tax sleuths to settle scores with opposition voices. “This is hara-kiri for democracy,” she asserted, citing cases where probes conveniently spike pre-elections.

Her critique extends beyond rhetoric; Mufti called for an all-party delegation to apprise the President of these ‘alarming trends.’ She linked it to BJP’s challenges in key battlegrounds, suggesting agencies are being deployed as campaign weapons.

From J&K’s perspective, the stakes are personal. Mufti reminisced about PDP’s past alliances with BJP, now soured, and warned that such tactics alienate the Valley’s populace further. “Power without principles is tyranny,” she remarked.

Echoing sentiments from across the opposition spectrum, Mufti’s statement aligns with accusations from AAP, Congress, and others facing similar heat. Legal experts weigh in, noting that while agencies operate independently, perceptions of bias can undermine public trust.

As India gears up for national polls, Mufti’s intervention adds fuel to the fire. It challenges the narrative of a resurgent BJP and positions regional leaders as guardians of fair play. The coming months will test whether her words translate into votes or fade into election noise.
