Punjab Police turned up the heat on security ahead of Republic Day, rolling out flag marches in every corner of the state late Sunday. Spearheaded under CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s oversight, the drills zeroed in on hotspots to preempt disruptions.

DGP Gaurav Yadav’s directives were unambiguous: CPs, SSPs, and SHOs must hold the line until parades wrap up. This hands-on approach promised ironclad protection.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla highlighted the marches’ dual role – projecting strength and fostering public reassurance. Districts saw coordinated patrols in at-risk sectors.

“We’ve surged manpower to over 20,000,” Shukla noted. “All major hubs from stations to shopping complexes are under CASO sweeps, conducted with respect.”

Anti-narcotics operations pressed on relentlessly. Day 330 yielded 50 arrests, 150g heroin, and hundreds of tablets. The campaign’s ledger shows 46,443 peddlers collared, plus rehab support for eight souls.

With eyes on mischief-makers and smugglers, these measures paint a picture of fortified defenses. Punjab stands primed for an incident-free Republic Day.
