Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha LoP, strongly criticized the Election Commission (EC) on Monday, alleging that the EC was involved in election ‘theft’. During his address at the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Gaya, he said that the EC’s actions would be exposed in every state. Gandhi maintained that the EC is answerable, as their ‘theft’ has been detected. He said that the entire country would demand the EC’s affidavit, and that he would expose the alleged wrongdoing in every state, Lok Sabha constituency, and Vidhan Sabha constituency. He made a reference to the EC’s actions in Bihar, which he framed as a ‘special package’. Referencing past elections, Gandhi spoke of discrepancies. He pointed to the Maharashtra elections, in which the Election Commission supposedly added one crore voters between the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha polls. He noted that his alliance won the Lok Sabha elections, but the BJP alliance won the state elections. He added that his party’s alliance received the same number of votes, but the BJP won due to new voters and accused them of stealing elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.
