During the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Motihari, Bihar, Rahul Gandhi increased his criticism of Prime Minister Modi. He directly addressed the Prime Minister’s silence amid accusations of corruption. Gandhi argued that the lack of response indicated guilt. He also suggested that Modi is fearful and unable to escape the consequences. Gandhi spoke of receiving messages from BJP MPs who requested he stop calling the Prime Minister a ‘thief.’ He insisted on speaking the truth, comparing the current situation to the Champaran movement, which started in Bihar and gained national importance. Gandhi indicated that the developments first seen in Mahadevpura would be replicated across the country. Congress, in a separate statement, said that the constitution gives the people the right to vote and this right is being stolen.
