A major controversy has erupted in Navagachia, Bhagalpur, after the Railways’ tree-cutting activities resulted in the deaths of numerous bird chicks, prompting the Forest Department to file a First Information Report (FIR). The incident has highlighted the Railways’ lack of sensitivity toward wildlife. The tree, a Pakad, was home to a large nesting colony of Little Cormorant and Little Egret birds. The felling of the tree caused scores of chicks to fall to the ground, many of whom died or were severely injured. The Forest Department intervened, rescuing surviving chicks and initiating legal action against railway officials.
