Railways Boosts Capacity with 116 Coaches Amid Flight Disruptions

Indian Railways has significantly increased its passenger carrying capacity by deploying 116 additional coaches across 37 trains, a measure taken to mitigate the impact of numerous IndiGo flight cancellations. These augmented trains are scheduled for 114 enhanced trips nationwide, ensuring more travel options are available. Southern Railway has taken the lead in these augmentations, adding chair car and sleeper class coaches to 18 trains on high-demand routes starting December 6, 2025. This move provides substantial relief to travelers in the southern region. Northern Railway has also enhanced services by adding 3AC and chair car coaches to eight trains, improving connectivity within its operational network. Western Railway has upgraded four key trains with 3AC and 2AC coaches, supporting passenger movement towards the national capital. Complementing these efforts, Indian Railways is running four special train services. These include a Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Terminal special, a New Delhi-Jammu Vande Bharat special, and superfast specials connecting New Delhi with Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram, aiming to provide seamless travel experiences.
