‘Coolie’, the latest film starring Superstar Rajinikanth, is slated to be available on Prime Video following its theatrical release. The OTT release date is anticipated to be in October or November 2025. This projection is based on the usual window of 45 to 60 days between a movie’s theatrical premiere and its availability on streaming services.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat, with a cameo appearance by Aamir Khan. ‘Coolie’ is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
The storyline focuses on Deva, a former gold smuggler, who has transitioned to working as a coolie. Deva attempts to regain his former status by reigniting his old gang with stolen technology hidden in antique gold watches, leading to unforeseen repercussions.
‘Coolie’ was also noteworthy for its ‘A’ certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), a rating given due to the film’s violent content. This was surprising since Lokesh’s earlier films, ‘Leo’ and ‘Vikram,’ received the ‘U/A’ certification.
Adding to the excitement, there are discussions about a potential collaboration between Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj again, this time possibly involving Kamal Haasan, in a gangster drama project. This project is likely to be produced by Kamal Haasan’s production house and will explore the narrative of aging gangsters, whose intertwined pasts resurface.
