Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ Targeted by Piracy: Madras High Court Acts to Protect Film’s Release

With the release of ‘Coolie’ in 2025, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, generating immense anticipation, the film’s producers have taken action against piracy. Concerns about the illegal distribution of the film led to a legal intervention. The Madras High Court issued an injunction on August 11 to prevent the unauthorized streaming and distribution of pirated copies of ‘Coolie.’ The court’s directive targeted 36 Internet Service Providers (ISPs), barring them from providing access to websites hosting pirated content. Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy’s order was issued after the court reviewed the film’s certification and confirmed Sun TV Network Limited as the legitimate producer. The court highlighted the potential for significant damage to the production if the injunction was not granted. Cable TV companies in Chennai, including Action Lane, JAK Communications, and Thamizhaga Cable TV, are also forbidden from showing the movie illegally. Key ISPs, such as BSNL, MTNL, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Hathway, Reliance Communications, and Tata Teleservices, are required to comply with the court’s order.
