Upasana Kamineni Konidela, wife of Telugu superstar Ram Charan and a prominent entrepreneur, has fiercely defended her decision to freeze her eggs, turning a personal choice into a broader discussion about women’s rights and career progression. Facing a wave of online criticism, Upasana took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify her position, asserting that her decision is rooted in her fundamental rights, not in privilege.

She expressed appreciation for the ‘healthy debate’ and the respectful feedback received. Upasana plans to elaborate on the societal dynamics of privilege and its pressures. She also directed her followers to helpful facts and images to foster more informed discussions. Furthermore, she encouraged employers to actively champion women’s presence in the workforce.

Upasana posed critical questions challenging the societal norms that dictate women’s life choices regarding marriage, partner selection, and the timing of parenthood. She champions the idea that women should be empowered to pursue their career goals and make independent decisions about family planning without succumbing to early societal pressures.

She shared her personal timeline: marrying at 27 based on love, freezing her eggs at 29 for personal and health reasons to serve as an example for other women, becoming a mother at 36, and now anticipating twins at 39. Upasana emphasized that she has always strived to balance her professional ambitions with her marital life, believing a strong foundation is key for family well-being. She concluded by asserting that integrating career and marriage contributes to a well-rounded life, and critically, she determines the timeline for these life events, stating unequivocally, ‘That’s not privilege; it’s my right!!!’

This advocacy stems from her earlier comments at an event in Hyderabad, where she referred to egg freezing as the ‘biggest insurance’ for women, allowing them to decide on marriage and children based on their own terms and financial stability. Ram Charan and Upasana, married in 2012, welcomed their daughter in 2023 and are reportedly expecting twins, a joyous announcement made during this year’s Diwali celebrations.
